The Hôtel de Beauvais is an hôtel particulier in Paris.
History[edit | edit source]
Located in the Marais district of Paris, the Hôtel de Beauvais served as a meeting place for the Jacobin Club during the French Revolution. [citation needed] By then, it had also become a meeting place for a radical faction of the Templar Order led by Grand Master François-Thomas Germain.[1]
One such meeting took place in March 1791,[2] shortly after Germain had tricked[3] the Assassin Arno Dorian into eliminating the moderate Templar Chrétien Lafrenière, who had planned to attack the radical Templars at the Beauvais.[1] When Arno learned of Lafrenière's plans, he infiltrated the Beauvais and eavesdropped on the meeting, where the Templars discussed their plans for manipulating the course of the revolution and eliminating the leader of the moderate Templars, Élise de la Serre. While the meeting took place, the Templar Maximilien de Robespierre held a speech condemning capital punishment.[2]
