The Huntsville Department of Criminal Justice, or Huntsville Unit, is a Texas state prison in Huntsville, United States. Opened in 1849, it is the oldest Texas state prison and houses the execution chamber of the State of Texas.[1]

History[edit | edit source]

On 21 October 2016, Callum Lynch was scheduled for an execution for the murder of a pimp and was housed at the facility. He was visited by Father Raymond in his cell for last rites.[2] After reading the Bible and understanding that Lynch was not interested in religion, Raymond asked him what he would like to hear at the hour of his death. Lynch then told the priest about a poem that his mother used to read him, "After Apple-Picking" by Robert Frost. Father Raymond recited the poem to Lynch until the prison guards came to take him to the execution chamber.[3]

Inside the chamber, Lynch was tied down and seemingly executed via lethal injection. However, the execution was faked by Abstergo Industries; in reality, Lynch was injected with a powerful sedative and removed from the facility. Abstergo ensured that, to the public, the execution appeared legitimate, and even modified all of Callum's records so that he would be declared legally dead. To the world, Lynch was no more, and Abstergo could freely use him as an Animus test subject at their Rehabilitation Center in Madrid, Spain.[2]
