Hamid al-Jasur

Hamid al-Jasur was a Moorish armorsmith for the Spanish Assassins during the late 15th century. Much of his life was spent peacefully as a blacksmith known for his non-discriminatory practices until he lost his family in the Sack of Málaga during the Granada War.

Biography

Hamid al-Jasur originally worked as a skilled Moorish armorer in the town of Málaga, where he lived with his wife and daughter. His peaceful life was forever destroyed when the Spanish forces of the Reconquista recaptured and sacked Málaga in the midst of the Granada War, torturing and slaughtering the Muslim population as punishment for its resistance. Among the victims of this massacre were his wife and daughter.

Alone and distraught, Hamid fled to Granada where he joined with the local Assassins around 1487. There, he found a sense of solace in their cause and resumed his skills as a smith to supply them armor in the campaign against the Spanish Inquisition. On occasion, he also worked in the field with fellow squadmates, helping them disarm traps and crack doors and chests.

In 1489, Hamid accompanied fellow Assassins Aguilar de Nerha and Tariq al-Nasr to establish a new headquarters in the Sierra de Cazorla. On their way through the city, Hamid detected that the Templars had set up traps all across the city, which he easily deactivated.

Personality and traits

Before he lost his wife and daughter in the Sack of Málaga, Hamid al-Jasur lived an ordinary life which he did not begrudge. He was a peaceful man who made a living crafting and selling armor. Notably, he never discriminated his patrons based on ethnicity or religious beliefs, treating them all equally without bias.

Skills and equipment

It was only natural that when he joined the Spanish Brotherhood, his primary contribution was in forging or weaving new armor for his comrades, but there were also times when he joined them in the frontlines, where he served in a support role. Out in the field, he always brought with him a spare suit of body armor in case he or his squadmates needed the extra protection. His technical knowledge in machinery translated into an expertise at lockpicking chests and doors and disarming booby traps, the latter of which were all too common in the fortresses, villas, and even monasteries under Templar control. When pressed into battle, he was also not defenceless, as he was sturdy man who could wield bludgeons like clubs and war hammers to brutal effect.

Behind the scenes

Hamid al-Jasur is a playable character in Assassin's Creed: Rebellion of the class Specialist and subclass Disarm. He is the third earliest to be acquired in the game, being an automatic reward in the tutorial when the player is instructed to unlock a DNA Cube for the first time. He completes the initial three-man squad and is then used in the tutorial Legacy mission to teach the player on Specialist Heroes.

Name

"Hamid" (حمید) is an Arabic name meaning 'lauded' or 'praiseworthy'. "Al-Jasur" (جسورال) is an Arabic honorific surname meaning 'the brave'.
