He is credited with being one of the fathers of the Continental Army, since he taught them the essentials of military drills, tactics, and other disciplines. He also served as [[George Washington]]'s chief of staff in the final years of the war, and wrote the Revolutionary War Drill Manual, the book that served as the standard [[United States]] drill manual until the War of 1812. On top of this he was highly criticized for being a homosexual which was very heavily frowned upon by other military officers in Europe, and the New World.

Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben

Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben (17 September 1730 – 28 November 1794), also known by the title Baron von Steuben was a Prussian-born military officer who served as Inspector general and Major General of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War.

Von Steuben was with the army at Valley Forge when they encamped there for the winter in 1778. There, he drilled the troops in basic military tactics and taught them basic camp layout and sanitation, stopping the spread of disease at the encampment.[1][2]

During the Battle of Petersburg in 1781, Baron von Steuben was assisted by Assassins sent by Ratonhnhaké:ton to ensure his safety.[3]
