Charlotte Albertine Marat (1760 – 1841) was the sister of leading Jacobin politician Jean-Paul Marat.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Overprotective of his sister, Marat disapproved of Albertine's lover and drove him away. Due to Marat's revolutionary ideals, Albertine and the rest of the family were also put in constant fear of reprisal from his enemies.[1]

After Marat was assassinated in July 1793, Albertine was considered one of the suspects and taken to the St. Germain Prison by the Gendarme. When the French Assassin Arno Dorian questioned Albertine, she claimed not to have been emotionally affected by her brother's death, having lost her lover and lived in fear because of him.[1]
