The Dome of the Rock is an Islamic shrine located in the city of Jerusalem. It was built between 689 and 691 CE atop the Temple Mount, allegedly on the spot of the farthest mosque visited by Muhammad during his Night Journey. As one of the most famous and important shrines in the world, the site of the Temple Mount is considered sacrosanct by the three religions of Islam, Judaism, and Christianity.[1]

In 2012, a virtual representation of the dome and its surrounding area was used by Abstergo Industries for the second stage of their Animi Training Program.[2]

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Though the dome appears golden in Assassin's Creed, it was not gilded until 1963. It was covered with black lead during the Third Crusade, had a cross on the top, and was converted into a Christian church until Jerusalem was recaptured by Salāḥ ad-Dīn.
  • Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad could climb to a viewpoint positioned on top of the roof, as the top of the dome itself was inaccessible.
  • Solomon's Temple could be located beneath the Dome of the Rock, since the temple's entrance was somewhere around a building close to the dome.
