The Deathbed of Ariadne was a ruined shrine in Maenad's Hills on Naxos Island, Greece.

Mythology[edit | edit source]

According to Greek mythology, the site was where Ariadne, the Kretan princess and later a goddess of the labyrinth, maze, and snakes, was abandoned by her lover, the hero Theseus, who is also considered the founder of Athens. Ariadne was subsequently killed by the hunter goddess Artemis for defiling a sacred place dedicated to her.[1]

Peloponnesian War[edit | edit source]

During the Peloponnesian War, the misthios Kassandra visited the site and discovered Ariadne's alleged remains. She also found a Followers of Ares group and after slaying them, she claimed their valuables for herself.[2]
