Chios (Greek: Χίος), also called Chora, is the main town of the island of Chios, Greece. In classical antiquity it was a major polis located in the Affluence Bay region of Petrified Islands.
Its inhabitants hugely profited from the exportation of mastic, wines and figs.[1][2]Among its landmarks, Chios boasted a temple dedicated to the god Poseidon. [3]
During the Peloponnesian War the Spartan misthios Kassandra explored the city.[3]
