A set of Chinese ceramics

Chinese ceramics are important to the country's art and are famous worldwide.

There is proof that ceramics have existed in China back in 18000 BCE. During the Ming dynasty, ceramics became known worldwide and were some of the goods sold to foreign merchants, including Portuguese sailors. During this period, Chinese art was improved due to the opening of the country to other cultures. Ming ceramics therefore had new forms, inspired by Islamic metalwork amongst other things. Thanks to discoveries in chemical mixtures used to decorate ceramics, new types of blue appeared as well.
