Charles V (1500 – 1558), born Karl von Habsburg, was Holy Roman Emperor from 1519, and King of Spain as Charles I from 1516, until his abdication in 1556.[1]
Charles inherited the Trident of Eden's Faith prong and passed it on to Hernán Cortés, who used it in his conquest of the Aztec Empire.[2] He also played a vital part in the Italian Wars, and his forces sacked Rome in 1527,[3] capturing Pope Clement VII and holding him in the Castel Sant'Angelo.[4] In 2012, Abstergo Industries included him in several mnemonic sets for Project Legacy.[5]
