The Café de la Régence is a café in the Palais-Royal in Paris, France. It was well known for being a chess center in Europe and was a regular meeting place for French intellectuals.[1] Among its many patrons figured great thinkers in the Age of Enlightenment, such as Denis Diderot, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, and Voltaire; as well as important statesmen such as Maximilien Robespierre, Benjamin Franklin, and Napoleon Bonaparte.[2]
