The Brentwood Outpost was an Anglo-Saxon stronghold, a military outpost, and a prison in Essexe, England.
History[edit | edit source]
In 875, the Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir travelled to the prison to rescue the ealdorman Birstan's former love, Alfida, from her unjust imprisonment. After hearing Alfida's yells for help, Eivor saw that the house encasing Alfida needed a key. Eivor found the key within the outpost and released Alfida. Eivor escaped the outpost and carried an injured Alfida to the Lake House, per the ealdorman's request.[1]
Through her search in the area, Eivor claimed two nickel ingots, one from killing a marksman and one from looting a chest inside an outpost's house. Eivor also discovered another chest and claimed the Galloglach Cape.[2]
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
According to the namesake, "Brentwood" is a compound word, as some maps transcribed the name as "Burntwood". Also, despite the Roman road between Lunden and Colcestre passing through the area, the Anglo-Saxons were seen as the area's earliest settlers.
