Gowan was a bard in late 9th century England.

At the time of the selection of a new ealdorman for Cent, Gowan went drinking with one of King Alfred the Great's emissaries, ending up passed out under a bridge. The Viking Eivor Varinsdottir, who had been tracking the emissary, sobered up Gowan and learned her target left for Dover Fortress.[1]
