Black Pig's Dyke

The Black Pig's Dyke was an abandoned war ditch situated on the hills in 9th century northeast Connacht, Ireland.

History[edit | edit source]

Between 879 and 882, jarlskona Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan traveled to the area and came upon wreckage of supplies, carts, and corpses all around. Venturing further into the area, she came across an idle yet humongous creature, resting in the middle of the dyke. Once entering its area, Eivor started to fight against the legendary wild boar, the Black Stout. Within time, Eivor defeated and killed the Black Stout.[1]

During her journey, Eivor searched for the identity of a Child of Danu, "The Blaze," as she followed a clue from a waterfall near the burnt village of Bally na Gall. The clue detailed that The Blaze's fiery tendencies took the love of his life and that in tribute, the Child of Danu would burn more homes between Clogher and Black Pig's Dyke.[2]
