It was possible to use the Bearded Axe to get ahold of weapons that Ezio should not have been able to get ahold of permanently, such as the [[Persian Shamshir]]. This was done by throwing the axe, and then grabbing said weapon.
Although called a Bearded Axe, in reality a bearded axe was a single-handed axe usually with a slightly curved cutting edge. The two-handed Bearded Axe is more closely related to a standard battle axe.

The Bearded Axe

The Bearded Axe was a two-handed Bearded axe obtainable during the 16th century. It could be purchased from any blacksmith in Rome. The Bearded Axe was also wielded by most Brutes and Il Carnefice.[1] During his search for the library of Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad, Ezio could also purchase the weapon in Constantinople.[2]
