Don António Álvares da Cunha, Conde da Cunha (c. 1700 – 1791) was a Portuguese colonial administrator who served as the governor of Angola from 1753 to 1758 and the viceroy of Brazil from 1763 to 1767.
During his tenure as the governor of Angola, Álvares was seated in Luanda, a city that had been suffering from a famine. Colonial Templar Shay Cormac sent barrels of food to allay its effects of a famine and gain leverage over da Cunha.[1] Luanda came under the Templars' direct influence, and Shay sent additional provisions to keep the governor in their pocket.[2]
