The '''Winter Palace''' was a palace in [[Anbar]], serving as a residence for the [[Abbasid Caliphate|Abbasid]] [[caliph]]s before [[Baghdad]] was founded as the empire's new capital.

In 861, the caliph [[Al-Mutawakkil]] arrived at the palace with his envoy to meet with the [[Order of the Ancients]]. That night, Al-Mutawakkil presented a large chest containing an [[Memory Seals|artifact]] which he had been asked to find. Once the Order had confirmed his find, they reminded Al-Mutawakki to keep in line and not to ever look inside the chest for his own sake before leaving. That same night, the [[thief]] [[Basim Ibn Ishaq]] and his friend [[Nehal]] infiltrated the palace to recover the artifact for the [[Hidden Ones]]. After being spotted by the caliph, Basim accidentally killed him with a dagger in self-defense and fled the palace with the artifact, while Al-Mutawakkil's son [[Al-Mu'tazz|Abu 'Abdallah]] called for the Caliphate guards to chase after him.<ref name="ACMir">''[[Assassin's Creed: Mirage]]'' – [[The Master Thief of Anbar]]</ref>
