The '''War of the Austrian Succession''' was a conflict between the [[Europe]]an great powers from 1740 to 1748 over the succession to the [[Austria]]n throne. It was primarily fought in Europe, the [[Atlantic Ocean]], and the [[Mediterranean Sea]] and began as a result of {{Wiki|Maria Theresa}}'s succession as ruler of the {{Wiki|Habsburg monarchy}}, which was challenged by [[France]], [[Prussia]], and {{Wiki|Electorate of Bavaria|Bavaria}}. Maria Theresa was backed by [[United Kingdom|Britain]], the [[Netherlands|Dutch Republic]], and {{Wiki|Electorate of Hanover|Hanover}}, which were collectively known as the {{Wiki|Pragmatic Sanction of 1713|Pragmatic Allies}}. As the conflict widened, it drew in other participants such as [[Spain]], [[Sweden]], and [[Russia]].<ref>{{WP|War of the Austrian Succession}}</ref>

The [[Templars|Templar]] [[Haytham Kenway]] became involved in the war as he searched for his half-sister [[Jennifer Scott]] across Europe. He notably fought in the [[Siege of Bergen op Zoom]] alongside the [[British Army|British troops]] commanded by fellow Templar [[Edward Braddock]], though he was appalled by the atrocities he witnessed, which were perpetrated by Braddock and his men.
