In 1509, Prince [[Selim I|Selim]] was stationed at Trebizond after the recent [[Little Judgment Day|earthquake]]. There, he discussed with his [[janissary]] [[Iskender (janissary)|Iskender]] about his plan to succeed his father [[Bayezid II|Bayezid]] as Sultan over his brother Prince [[Ahmet]]. Realizing that Ahmet and the [[Ottoman Brotherhood of Assassins|Ottoman Assassins]] may be against him, Selim left to secure more men while advising Iskender to wait for Ahmet's forces to arrive.
