==History==
In 878, the [[Vikings|Viking]] [[Geirmund Hel-hide]] and his [[Hel-hides]] made camp along with Guthrum's second-in command, [[Eskil]]. The next day, they all readied themselves for the [[Battle of Chippenham|battle]] at Chippenham but stop once [[Rafn One-Arm|Rafn]] fell over due to his infected arm. Giving [[Birna Gormsdóttir]] command over the Hel-hides, Geirmund, [[Vetr]], Eskil, [[Steinólfur]], and [[Skjalgi]] stayed with Rafn to treat his ailment. Seeing no choice, they all helped amputate Rafn's arm and sterilized him. Vetr took care of Rafn and guarded him as he recuperated from his surgery. Soon, Vetr almost killed an intruder, who happened to be Geirmund. Geirmund and his small company came back to check on them as Rafn seemed to be healing nicely.
