==Biography==
During his lifetime, Yoshitsune fought a famous duel against the {{Wiki|sohei}} [[Benkei]] at {{Wiki|Gojo Bridge}} which he won. This led the warrior monk to become his retainer and serve him during the Genpei War against the {{Wiki|Taira clan}}, dying alongside one another in 1189.<ref name="Wiki" />

Yoshitsune's duel with Benkei became well renown and held in high regard, such that in the 16th century, the people of [[Otsu]] considered it legendary.<ref name="An Evening in Otsu" />
