The '''Tsutsui clan''' (筒井氏, ''Tsutsui-shi'') was a [[Japan]]ese clan that held power in the [[Yamato|Yamato Province]] during the [[Sengoku period]].

==History==
By the 16th century, taking their name from their castle, the Tsutsui were once strong warriors who defended [[Kōfuku-ji]] [[temple]]. However, through time, they emanicipated themselves and slowly became one of the powerful clans in [[Yamato]].<ref name="DB">''[[Assassin's Creed: Shadows]]'' – [[Database: Tsutsui Junkei]]</ref>

In 1565, led by [[Tsutsui Junkei]], the clan became embroiled in a rivalry with [[Matsunaga Hisahide]], who overtook the castle. Yet, when Junkei allied himself with [[Oda Nobunaga]], they retook back their castle. For more than a decade, the Tsutsui clan fought alongside Oda clan, especially during the [[Ishiyama Hongan-ji War]] and the [[Tenshō Iga War]]. In 1578, Nobunaga named Junkei the ''[[daimyō]]'' of Yamato. As a result, they moved their clan and built [[Kōriyama Castle]] as their new base.<ref name="DB"/>

===Negotiations with the Akiyama clan===
In 1582, Junkei was in negotiations for peace with the [[Akiyama clan]] and their matriarch [[Akiyama Ayako]].<ref name="A Chance Encounter">''[[Assassin's Creed: Shadows]]'' - [[A Chance Encounter]]</ref> They later agreed of having Abbot [[Hara Joken|Joken Hokkyō]] be their mediator. Unfortunately, Tsutsui's peace envoys turned up missing, leading Junkei to accuse Ayako of starting a war. Coincidentally, the [[Japanese Brotherhood of Assassins|Kakushiba ''ikki'']] members [[Fujibayashi Naoe]] and [[Yasuke]] came and investigated the matter to ensure peace between the clans.<ref name="A Chance Encounter"/>

From their findings, Naoe and Yasuke discovered a darker conspiracy, perpertuated by the secret collective, the [[Shinbakufu]],<ref name="The Lost Envoys">''[[Assassin's Creed: Shadows]]'' - [[The Lost Envoys]]</ref> with the aid of a secret group, the [[Kurai Eikyou]].<ref name="Kurai Eikyou">''[[Assassin's Creed: Shadows]]'' - [[Kurai Eikyou (memory)|Kurai Eikyou]]</ref> From their investigation, they later recovered a holy script taken by rogue Akiyama soldiers,<ref name="Temple Stories">''[[Assassin's Creed: Shadows]]'' - [[Temple Stories]]</ref> rescued the remaining Tsutsui envoy, and delivered the peace talks invitation to Ayako.<ref name="The Lost Envoys">''[[Assassin's Creed: Shadows]]'' - [[The Lost Envoys]]</ref>. They also found and killed a duplicitious [[The Akiyama Agent|agent]] within the clan's stronghold at Kōriyama Castle.<ref name="Kurai Eikyou"/>

At the peace talks, Naoe investigated [[Kōfuku-ji|Kofukuji Temple]]'s grounds and uncovered a plot to kill Junkei. Meanwhile, Yasuke watched the talks falter and soon saw [[Matsunaga Kojiro|Kojiro]] nearby. During the talks, they all saw an ''[[ashigaru]]'' fall with a ''[[Arquebus|teppō]]'' in his hand, almost leading to a fight between Ayako and Junkei. However, Yasuke, with Kojiro's insistence, threw a ''[[tantō]]'' at Joken, who caught it smoothly and revealed himself as Shinbakufu. With his cover blown, he ordered his men to kill them all, including to recover Yasuke's head, while he escaped. Together, Junkei, with Ayako, Yasuke, and their soldiers, fought off Joken's men, while Naoe and Yasuke then tracked down and ultimately killed Joken, ending his plans. ===Siding with Hideyoshi===
After the [[Battle of Yamazaki]], Junkei later sided with Hideyoshi and in 1584, he even aided the lord in the {{Wiki|Battle of Komaki}} against [[Tokugawa Ieyasu]]. However, Junkei soon fell ill and died after the battle.<ref name="DB"/>
