'''Mikawa''' (三河国; ''Mikawa no Kuni'') was a province of [[Japan]] whose territory now consists of the eastern half of {{Wiki|Aichi Prefecture}} in the present day. During the [[Sengoku period]], the province bordered {{Wiki|Owari Province|Owari}} to the west, {{Wiki|Mino Province|Mino}} and {{Wiki|Shinano Province|Shinano}} to the north, and {{Wiki|Tōtōmi Province|Tōtōmi}} to the east.<ref name="Wiki">{{WP|Mikawa Province}}</ref>

==History==
By 1560, Mikawa became embroiled in the [[Assassin-Templar War|fight]] between the [[Assassins]] and the [[Templars]]. [[Italy|Italian]] Templar and [[Jesuits|Jesuit]] [[priest]] [[Paulino Massa]] met with [[Imagawa Ujizane]],<ref name="Ch 9">''[[Assassin's Creed: Shadows – Tales of Iga]]'' – [[Assassin's Creed: Shadows – Tales of Iga Chapter 9|Chapter 9]]</ref> whom he recruited into the Templar Order.<ref name="Ch12">''[[Assassin's Creed: Shadows – Tales of Iga]]'' – [[Assassin's Creed: Shadows – Tales of Iga Chapter 12|Chapter 12]]</ref> Together, they planned to find and steal the [[Imperial Regalia of Japan|Imperial Regalia]] in order to take control of the country and defeat both their enemies, [[Oda clan]] and [[Tokugawa Ieyasu|Matsudaira Takechiyo]].<ref name="Ch 9"/>

In 1561, however, Massa and Ujizane's plans to attack [[Iga]]n ''[[Ninja|shinobi]]'' master [[Momochi Sandayu]] and learn of the Regalia's location failed due to the interference of the Assassins. As a result, [[Master Assassin]] [[Alvaro Catarribera]] and his [[Assassin apprentice|apprentice]] sent their new ally and acolyte [[Hattori Hanzō]] back to his homeland to investigate the Templar presence.<ref name="Ch 9"/> While there, he caught the attention of fellow retainer to the Matsudaira clan, [[Watanabe Moritsuna]],<ref name="Ch 10">''[[Assassin's Creed: Shadows – Tales of Iga]]'' – [[Assassin's Creed: Shadows – Tales of Iga Chapter 10|Chapter 10]]</ref> who took him to meet with Takechiyo.<ref name="Ch 11">''[[Assassin's Creed: Shadows – Tales of Iga]]'' – [[Assassin's Creed: Shadows – Tales of Iga Chapter 11|Chapter 11]]</ref>

Meeting with Takechiyo, Hanzō met with the ''[[daimyō]]'' and learned of his wife [[Lady Tsukiyama|Sena]] and [[Matsudaira Nobuyasu|his]] [[Kamehime|children]] being held captive at [[Imagawa Mansion]] by Ujizane. Takechiyo also admitted of a growing [[Europe|European]] presence and mentioned a unique [[Templar insignia|cross]] around a priest's neck. In 1562, Hanzō and Moritusuna planned a secret infiltration, with Hanzō solely making his way onto the mansion's grounds. Inside, he looked for the captives but came upon a harsh discussion between [[Imagawa clan|Imagawa]] retainer [[Udono Nagateru]] and a concubine [[Okiku]]. Unfortunately, he witnessed Nagateru [[poison]] the young woman over her failed contribution to the clan and moved forward to find Sena and the kids.<ref name="Ch 13">''[[Assassin's Creed: Shadows – Tales of Iga]]'' – [[Assassin's Creed: Shadows – Tales of Iga Chapter 13|Chapter 13]]</ref> While there, Hanzō learned of the Templars' business, especially in [[slavery]], and sent a message back to Sandayu and his allies about his findings.<ref name="Ch 18">''[[Assassin's Creed: Shadows – Tales of Iga]]'' – [[Assassin's Creed: Shadows – Tales of Iga Chapter 18|Chapter 18]]</ref> 

Meanwhile, Hanzō sneaked around the premise to find Takechiyo's family. However, he was seen by Imagawa soldier [[Amano Kageyasu]] and nearly killed him. However, Kageyasu offered to help in sake to save himself. Taking him to Sena's cell, Hanzō finds a dead woman and the smell of death.<ref name="Ch 22">''[[Assassin's Creed: Shadows – Tales of Iga]]'' – [[Assassin's Creed: Shadows – Tales of Iga Chapter 22|Chapter 22]]</ref> Instantly bereft, Hanzō saw his hopes dashed while Ujizane then found Hanzō there and began to mock him, only to be knocked out by Kageyasu. They later escaped and met up with Moritsuna, despite not having Sena and her children.<ref name="Ch 23">''[[Assassin's Creed: Shadows – Tales of Iga]]'' – [[Assassin's Creed: Shadows – Tales of Iga Chapter 23|Chapter 23]]</ref>

While running, Hanzō and Moritsuna noticed Nagateru riding past all of them, while holding Sena hostage, towards [[Kaminogō Castle]]. Hanzō pledged to infiltrate the castle alone while Moritsuna and Kageyasu were told to head to Takechiyo.<ref name="Ch 23"/> At the castle, Nagateru held Sena and her kids hostage but they were found by Hanzō, who nearly killed Nagateru. However, Massa stopped it while introducing himself, much to Nagateru's chagrin. With this insult, Massa dismissed and killed Nagateru before holding Sena and her children at gunpoint. He then posed a choice to Hanzō, the location of the Imperial Regalia for their lives, while their surroundings became aflame as Takechiyo launched an [[Siege of Kaminogō Castle|assault]] on the castle.<ref name="Ch 24">''[[Assassin's Creed: Shadows – Tales of Iga]]'' – [[Assassin's Creed: Shadows – Tales of Iga Chapter 24|Chapter 24]]</ref>
