Jarlskona[edit source]

So I was just looking into this as I was curious. It seems jarlskona actually means "jarl's wife or woman" while jarlkona would be "lady jarl". It's all academic since the game only uses jarlskona but food for thought. Lacrossedeamon (talk) 04:16, 17 September 2022 (UTC)

feels like we should change it then if the term used was slightly wrong lol. Eivor is a jarlkona, she aint married to a jarl.RealBearZ (talk) 10:26, 17 September 2022 (UTC)
This should be a question for Cyf, otherwise it might just be a thing we put in a behind the scenes section. Also I only had one source for this so if it is something we want to act on more research will be necessary. Lacrossedeamon (talk) 10:30, 17 September 2022 (UTC)
I think that per our policy, we would correct that grammatical error, at least in writing. I'm less sure if we would do so in quoting. Could we interpret it as an in-universe Animus transcription error? Sol Pacificus(Cyfiero) 17:02, 17 September 2022 (UTC)
Well I'm having trouble finding sources that specify whether there was a meaningful difference between the two term or whether they could be used interchangeably. While I see most constructions of words using "kona" to not add an s and meaning lady ____ I am also seeing a few instance where even without the added s it means ______'s wife. I don't know if there are any examples in actual sagaic literature of either construction that we can look to for clarity. Lacrossedeamon (talk) 03:15, 18 September 2022 (UTC)
It seems that jarlskona/jarlkona might just be neologism to provide a word for female clan leaders depicted in more modern media. Lacrossedeamon (talk) 07:11, 27 September 2022 (UTC)
