Name of the article[edit source]

Given Odyssey, should we change this to Herakles? Originally, this article was named because of his appearance in the Glyphs/Rifts, but I'd daresay 'Herakles' is used way more in canon by now than 'Hercules'. Sadelyrate (siniath) 09:22, November 3, 2018 (UTC)

I agree, we should indeed use the name most used (in this case Herakles) in such a case. Kennyannydenny (talk) 09:27, November 3, 2018 (UTC)
Should we do the same then with Asclepius and Asklepios? If I recall right, most ingame locations and mentions of him are "Asklepios". Kennyannydenny (talk) 09:28, November 3, 2018 (UTC)
That's the Roman variation of the name, as most of the Greek gods were assimilated into Roman culture after the Roman Empire conquered Greece. I feel that we should retain 'Hercules' as the name of the article and redirect 'Herakles' to this, like many of the Jupiter/Zeus articles. Even though Herakles is used more often, it doesn't discount the fact that the hero was introduced into the AC universe as 'Hercules'. XOdeyssusx (talk)
By our naming policy, the name used in the most recent appearance and/or the more prominent appearance takes precedence. Even if not so, Herakles is originally a Greek hero, not a Roman one, so using his original name would be more accurate. Sol Pacificus(Cyfiero) 15:38, November 3, 2018 (UTC)
I assumed we’d treat it like we do Christopher Colombus. We have the article name in the anglicized/latinized version but the actual intro of the article starts with the original pronunciation. Lacrossedeamon (talk) 17:22, November 3, 2018 (UTC)
The reason why Christopher Columbus is titled as such is not all because it is the Anglicized name. His was a contentious case because his more prominent appearance, Discovery where he is a main character referred to as Cristoffa Corombo, conflicts with the other criteria of a newer appearance, the film where he is called Christopher Columbus. Hence, it could have gone either way, and we only settled on the latter because we decided that it being the more commonly known name in real-life gave it a slight +1 point in its favor, but OOU popularity is normally not a factor. In academia, neither Herakles nor Hercules is more correct than the other if you're not referring specifically to the Roman or the Greek hero. However, if one is writing about Herakles in the context of a Greek setting, then Hercules is considered incorrect. If Herakles for us is more prominent in Odyssey, if this is the name used in a newer source, and if we are favoring endonyms over foreign names, Herakles should be the name used. Well, Hercules is the Latin form of the actual Greek, Herakles. I also think we ought to be using Greek alphabet if we are to rename the page in honor of his mention in AC Odyssey. So, it would read as, Ηερακλες (Herakles). Though there is one stipulation, the Isu are named for their Latin presentations and not their Greek ones. So, I am a little divided on this one. Perhaps there can be a trivia mention? Supreme Master AssassinO Mentoras 22:26, November 5, 2018 (UTC)
