Sukyo-ji Temple

Sukyo-ji Temple is a Buddhist temple situated in Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan. During the Sengoku period, it was located in southern Miyazu Bay in Tamba Province.

History[edit | edit source]

In 1582, the Kakushiba ikki members Fujibayashi Naoe and Yasuke arrived at the temple and met with daimyō Hosokawa Fujitaka, who requested their help to investigate a smuggling ring within his own silver business. After the pair accepted, Fujitaka had his second-in-command Yoshisada provide them with the first clue for their investigation.[1]

Through their search, Naoe and Yasuke found and eliminated all the conspirators, Akechi clan members and Portuguese merchants alike, and discovered Yoshisada to be the mastermind behind the smuggling ring. After they returned to Sukyo-ji to report their findings to Fujitaka, the lord refused to believe his own second-in-command had betrayed him, leading to Naoe and Yasuke confronting and killing Yoshisada at Miyazu Castle. They then came back with a written confession from Yoshisada, after which Fujitaka thanked the pair for their help and gifted them gold while deciding not to ally himself with the Akechi clan.[1]

At some point, Naoe and Yasuke returned to the temple and recovered two lost pages scattered across its grounds.[2]
