The Melon Slicer was an ōdachi that Yasuke obtained in 1582. That year, Yasuke and fellow Kakushiba ikki member Fujibayashi Naoe were tasked by Mamushi with examining the rumors of yōkai throughout Japan. During their investigation in Izumi Settsu, they arrived at Suika Lands, where they discovered a pair of "melon" yōkai, Suika no Bakemono and Makuwauri no Bakemono. In reality, they were two farmers sparring over their preferred type of melon. Confronting the men, they were asked about which melon they preferred and after answering the question, they fought the opposing farmer, besting them to honor the new "melon lord" of the season and receiving the weapon from his personal effects.[1]
