Henry II (French: Henri II; 1519 – 1559) was King of France from 1547 to his death.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Henry married Catherine de' Medici in 1533 and succeeded his father, Francis I, as King of France in 1547.[1] Under his reign, the Louvre palace was expanded and improved.[2]

In 1559, he participated in a jousting tournament at what is now the Place des Vosges. During the tournament, Henry received a mortal head wound[3] when his skull was unintentionally pierced by Gabriel de Montgomery, his master-at-arms. He later died from his injuries within the Hôtel des Tournelles.[1]

Legacy[edit | edit source]

After his death, Henry's heart was placed in the Church of the Celestines before later being moved to the Louvre.[4]

In November 2014, many facts about Henry's life and deeds were included by Shaun Hastings in various database entries for the perusal of a certain Helix Initiate whilst they relived the memories of the French Assassin Arno Dorian.[2][3][4]
