We've had an IRC channel since before Wikia Chat was launched, and because most of us prefer it over Wikia Chat since it has a lot more features, we have opted to keep it and not implement Chat. You can visit the IRC here.
PS: Please don't be one of the people who thinks 'I don't know how this works', and then abruptly leaves. :)
