Oh dear... No the Order of the Assassin's are not real, nor is the Order of the Templars

Assassins however are real, an assassin is someone that kills a person for political reasons, so there 'assassins' just not in the sense of Ubisoft's Creation.

However in the Crusading era they were both real factions... The Hashasin were paid large sums of money to eliminate/threaten/scare poltical figures. However The Mongols had the Hashasin castles and people killed... for either planning to kill/killing/ being accussed of killing important Mongol Leaders. (So in theory they were both assassins and hitmen)

The Order of the Knights of the Temple of Soloman (Knights Templar) were Christian warrior monks who protected pilgrims, but became an army for crusading... and despite popular belief were not disbanded because of heretic practices... they were cleared of the charges, their reputation was beyond repair because of the charges and their lengthy conclusion, that the Pope disbanded the Order and gave its treasure to the Knights of St John (which DO still exsist today), which is the same order most of the Former Templar Knights, Grooms, and Sergants joined.

So yes they were real, NOT IN THE SENSE UBISOFT HAVE CREATED (They have created their story through History's many many Loop holes)

And to reply to some of the other posts; Freemasons were just that Masons... who were paid a LOT of money to build a church, they are nothing more now, than an old man's Club (I had a lecturer in College that told me this, as he is a member, and was wondering why a person in the class believed in the conspiracy theory, and over heard my telling him he is an idiot) The Iluminati were called a conspircay theory because they were scientests studying areas that would have embarrased the papacy and its follows belief (The papacy was the real world leader at that time). Of course people believe in the two phiosophies (Spelling is awful) as they have for as long as they has been civilization, although ultimately they want power for themselves, the Borgia, for example, wanted power, Guy Faulkes wanted Freedom and so and so on. And people like the Norway Murderer are just nut cases that believe in these 'New Templar Order' stuff, I do not understand what going to a small island and killing anyone insight will do to help a create a world of peace.... Is that what you are? Someone who will believe in someone thing so silly, and not real that you will do what he did?

And I think you may need to lock the AC Content away for a little while... and if you deem it needed, get some professional Help to stop these ideas of creating an Order thats fictional purpose is to kill.
