You are correct with History as the others who commented said. However, as the writers keep stressing there is no GOOD assassin's nor BAD Templars... It is merely two idealolgies (Spelling Not so great i think) the assassin's and Templars both have the same idea (peace throughout the land)...however the means to achieve this are different, and that is why they war with one another.I personally have to agree with the Templars of the series, mankind will never be able to achieve peace on their lonesome, and so will need to have a 'push' in the right direction. But what must be remembered is that the game states that fictionally both factions were around from the first two humans to escape TWCB, and that at the start of all the games they say clearly it is all fiction made by a team of various cultures and beliefs.
Although one thing i believe you may have misunderstood is that the Templars did not fight for their country... for starters they were part of the invaders, not defenders, secondly, they fought for the church, and thirdly it is commonly believed over time they did become corrupt (the spelling escapes me, blah)
Sorry the post was slightly more long winded than i planned, hehe. Tyler.
