True, but since they already have canon fates and targets it would be difficult to engineer certain things. For example, if the third AC game were made to focus around Iltani, the female Assassin who killed Alexander the Great with poison, the game would have to be engineered so that when you faced Alexander the Great you had no choice but to use poison. If it were Darius, the creators would have to make absolutely sure you killed Xerxes with a hidden Blade instead of a sword or by throwing him off a ledge. For the sake of storyline and nonlinear plot progression, an intermediate ancestor between Ezio and Desmond is really the best way to go.
