I know its a long shot and its probably because im Irish that I wish it could happen, but I have been looking into a possible setting in Ireland and the U.K. It could be based on British (templar) oppression on the Irish homeland, plus there are a series of rebellions known as the "DESMOND" REBELLIONS - google it. Your guild or hideout could be situated in the rural Irish coutryside and you could travel to major British cities such as London and Manchester to assassinate Templars. Desmond is also an Irish or celtic name so it could explain why he is named it. The protaganist could strive to free the Irish people from tyranny, and maybe eventually emigrate to America, like almost half the population did then. I kinda know it would never happen, but its nice to dream, a totally alternative setting, green, green and more green, plus they could finally introduce a new weather system to the series, RAIN, cos the sun never f**kin shines here!haha
