Mary Lynch
Mary Lynch (née Mckye; 1956 – 1986) was an Assassin, the wife of Joseph Lynch, and mother of Callum Lynch. She was a descendant of the Spanish Assassin Aguilar de Nerha.
Biography[edit | edit source]
Life as an Assassin[edit | edit source]
Mary was born into the Assassin Order and, like her ancestors, swore to uphold the Creed passed down through generations of their blood. At some point before 1979, she married fellow Assassin Joseph Lynch, with whom she had a son, Callum.[1]
In 1986, Mary committed suicide with the aid of her husband to prevent her capture by the Templars, who sought to use her genetic memories to locate an Apple of Eden previously handled by her ancestor Aguilar. Holding Joseph's arm, she stabbed herself in the neck with his Hidden Blade and bled to death.[1]
After Mary's death, Joseph found himself unable to kill his and Mary's son, and instead urged Callum to flee before the arrival of Templars led by Alan Rikkin. Following Callum's departure, the heartbroken Joseph surrendered to the Templars and was brought to the Abstergo Foundation Rehabilitation Center.[1]
Legacy[edit | edit source]
Mary's death continued to haunt Callum for the next thirty years, the young child being unaware of his parents' allegiance to the Assassins and believing that his father had killed his mother. Alone in the world, the orphan came to hate his father and later developed a deep hatred for men who attacked women. At some point before 2016, Callum killed a pimp after he witnessed the man beating one of his prostitutes, a sixteen-year-old girl, and was sentenced to death by a jury due to his criminal record.[1]
It was not until 2016, when the Templars faked Callum's execution and brought him to their facility in Madrid, that he learned the truth about his mother. Informed about the Assassins by his jailers and having reunited with Joseph, Callum decided to help the Templars find the Apple to get his revenge on his father and the Creed for which his mother had died. Eventually, Callum came to terms with the circumstances of his mother's death after exploring Aguilar's memories.[1]
Later, Mary appeared among a crowd of Callum's Assassin ancestors who manifested themselves through the Animus once he fully synchronized with Aguilar. Mary spoke with her son, prompting him to forgive his father and to pledge allegiance to the Assassins' Creed, vowing to protect the Apple from the Templars.[1]
Personality and traits[edit | edit source]
Mary inherited an Assassin medallion that had been given to her ancestor by his lover, María, shortly before her death.
