Maine is a U.S state located in the northeastern region of the United States, in an area known as New England, and is bordered by New Hampshire.
During the American Revolutionary War, Maine composed part of Massachusetts—therefore being claimed under the United States' initial thirteen colonies. However, following the debates on slavery during 1820, the Missouri Compromise was passed and allowed Maine to secede, becoming its own free state.[1]
