Gortyn Code

The Gortyn Code was a piece of legislation inscribed on a stele in the city-state of Gortyn in Messara, Greece.

History

Inscribed in the 5th century BCE, the legislation regulated Gortynian civil life, which included the management of family affairs affecting inheritance, divorce, adoption and widowhood.

During the Peloponnesian War, the stele was visited by the Spartan misthios Kassandra. It was also frequented by Ptolemaios, who had a task for the misthios.

Trivia

• While the stele in-game does contain writing, it uses the Greek lorem ipsum used throughout Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, instead of replicating the actual text.
