Database: Akechi Mitsuyoshi

Sources concerning Mitsuyoshi are rare, and his exact date of birth remains unknown. Furthermore, in contemporary documents he was known under the name Jūgorō, the eldest son of Akechi Mitsuhide. That his name was Mitsuyoshi is only confirmed by a later chronicle named the Akechi gunki, written in the last years of the 17th century leading to doubts among historians on this subject. However, his name is cited among the participants in a renga contest organized by his father in 1582. During the Honnō-ji incident where Oda Nobunaga met his death, Mitsuyoshi was at Sakamoto Castle in the province of Ōmi. When his father was defeated and killed at the Battle of Yamazaki, he found himself surrounded by Hideyoshi's generals Nakagawa Kiyohide and Takayama Ukon and perished in the castle with the other members of his family. However, according to other sources, he died of illness in Kameyama Castle, or he survived by becoming a monk.
