Cempoala
Cempoala was a city-state and the capital of the Kingdom of Totonacapan that allied with the Spanish Empire during its conquest of the Aztec Empire.

The Cempoalans of Totonacapan were one of the first native peoples to side with the Spanish against the other Mesoamerican peoples. Heavy taxations by the Aztecs after Cempoala had been defeated by them in the mid-15th century led to much animosity and was among the reasons they turned so easily.[1]
By August 1519, the Spanish had made their way to Tlaxcala, with the Cempoalans drawing their cannons along for them. On 31 August, the morning of the first encounter between the Spanish and the Tlaxcaltecs, the Tlaxcaltec tecuhtli Chimalpopoca said choice words to one of his warriors about his feelings towards the Cempoalans, thinking them traitors for assisting the Spanish.[2]
