The Altar of Melikertes

The Altar of Melikertes was an altar located on the shore north of Port of Kechries within Isthmus of Poseidon in Korinthia, Greece.

The altar was dedicated to Melikertes, a mythical prince of Boeotia and the son of Ino, whose corpse was found and buried by the founder of Korinth Sisyphos. Sisyphos went on to establish a cult around the deceased prince, and as part of it, created the Isthmian Games to celebrate him.[1]

During the Peloponnesian War, the altar was visited by the Spartan misthios Kassandra.[2]
