Jeremy Irons

Jeremy Irons (born 19 September 1948) is an English film, television, stage and voice actor who portrays Alan Rikkin in the Assassin's Creed film.

Biography

Early life

Jeremy Irons was born on 19 September 1948 in Cowes, England. Initially working as just a theatre actor he later came to prominence in dramatic leading roles during the 1980s in films like The French Lieutenant's Woman, The Mission, and Dead Ringers, he subsequently became popular during the 1990s with villainous roles in the blockbusters The Lion King and Die Hard with a Vengeance.

Assassin's Creed

In October 2015, Jeremy Irons was announced to be cast in the then-upcoming Assassin's Creed film to play Alan Rikkin, father of Sophia Rikkin and a character from the original 2009 video game. Prior to being cast, Jeremy Irons had never heard of Assassin's Creed nor had he played a video game. Irons signed onto the movie once he learned that Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard were also attached. Emerging director Justin Kurzel also factored in to Irons' interest. On 21 December 2015, Irons provided his voice (as Alan Rikkin) to a voicemail as promotion for the movie. The phone number to call was tweeted by Ubisoft as a photo of Alan Rikkin's business card. The film was later released on 21 December 2016.

Personal life

Irons married Julie Hallam in 1969, but they divorced later that year. He married Irish actress Sinéad Cusack on 28 March 1978. They have two sons, Samuel "Sam" Irons (born 1978), who works as a photographer, and Maximilian "Max" Irons (born 1985), also an actor. Both of Irons' sons have appeared in films with their father.
