Nabari Wilds

The Nabari Wilds were a forested sub-region of Iga Province, Japan, during the Sengoku period. Less populated than Iga's other regions, they spanned the entire southern part of the province and bordered Yamato.[1]

History[edit | edit source]

In 1582, the kunoichi Fujibayashi Naoe traveled to the region in search of her "auntie" Matsu, who had retired to the mountains in southern Iga and planned to live out her final days in peace. After reuniting with her at the Hinotani Shrine, Naoe offered to help Matsu find a new home,[2] and eventually secured a remote cabin after eliminating a yamabushi imposter who had made it his residence. In the process, she also rescued two travelers—Yoshiharu and his granddaughter Murasaki—who had been attacked by the imposter,[3] and who subsequently moved in with Matsu.[4]

During their later travels, Naoe and her fellow Kakushiba ikki member Yasuke established two kakuregas in the Nabari Wilds: one in the south, near the Bloody Head Well, and another in the north, next to the Momoshi-Toride Ruins.[1]
