A seagull in 9th-century Norway

Seagulls, sometimes called gulls, are medium-sized birds belonging to the Laridae family. Seagulls are a type of seabird adapted to living in coastal areas, foraging above and in the sea, whilst still nestling on land.[1]

Most seagull species are white or grey, with black markings. They live on fish, crustaceans, and other small animals.[1]

History[edit | edit source]

Seagulls are often found near coastal cities and can be seen resting on and following ships, using them as a piece of land. The Spartan misthios Kassandra,[2] the Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir,[3] the pirate Edward Kenway,[4] and the Templar Shay Cormac[5] all encountered a species of seagull during their travels.
