Mount Kōya, also known as Koyasan, is a mountain and a large Buddhist temple settlement in Wakayama Prefecture, Japan.[1] During the Sengoku period, it was a sub-region in Kii and situated west of Kumano Sanzan, north of Nakahechi Route, and east of Kinokawa Valley.[2]
In 1582, the Kakushiba ikki members Fujibayashi Naoe and Yasuke traveled to and climbed the peak of the mountain and surveyed the region. They later established a kakurega in the area.[2]
