Bishop Liutward was the archchancellor of the Carolingian Empire under Charles the Fat. In 887, he was accused by Charles of having an affair with the Empress Richardis and banished from Francia.[1] In the underground brothel beneath the Boatmen Baths Tavern, Charles the Fat had the prostitutes address him as "Liutward".[2]
