Draupnir was a mythical golden ring capable of replicating itself,[1] making eight new rings of same size and weight as the original every ninth night.[2]
Mythology[edit | edit source]
Draupnir was made along with the hammer Mjölnir and the iron boar Gullinbursti by the dwarven blacksmiths Sindri and Brokkr.[3] They then gifted the items to Odin as part of a bet Loki made, that they could not outdo the craftsmanship of Sif's golden hair, the collapsible ship Skíðblaðnir, and the Spear of Eden Gungnir that Loki had also commissioned from the Sons of Ivaldi.[4] Loki tried to ruin their work, biting Brokkr while disguised as a gadfly until he could no longer stand, but still he finished the item.[2]
