Apate is the personification of deceit in Greek mythology, whose male counterpart is Dolos. Her Roman equivalent is Fraus.

During the Peloponnesian War, Barnabas, the captain of the ship Adrestia, acknowledged Apate while looking for his wife with the Spartan misthios Kassandra.
