Actually, if I remember correctly, which I'm very sure I do. Silvio and Dante were leaving on a ship to Egypt when you assassinate them, and they were going there to retrieve the Apple. So it would make sense that Rodrigo returned from there when you fight him alongside the other Assassins, seeing as he had the Apple in his possession. And I think some civilizations in South America also built pyrimids, not just Egypt; but I'm not sure on that.
