In what is now known as Germany would be very good. Although the nation of Germany has only truly existed for the last 200 years. Between 962 to 1806 it was known as the Holy Roman Empire (Holy Roman Empire of the German Nations). Which contained hundreds of principalities so to speak. The 30 years war I mentioned above took place in the HRE.

As far as nations go it's a bit difficult to name them as at different time periods some nations existed that didn't in others. I am thinking of adding another tab atm that deals with the Normans (Normandy). Which sprung up two kingdoms, the Kingdom of England and the Kingdom of Sicily.
