I'm sure it will expand beyond Desmond's storyline. There's so much more history to explore, and there is more money in it for them. And I think they also enjoy making these games a lot.

But anyways, the AC series has already expanded beyond Desmond's storyline. Go read Assassin's Creed: The Fall. I hope we get to see more things like that - in game format.
