So far it seems alright. And even if the regular guns turn out bad(especially since you can only shoot one gun at the beginning of the game) the Naval guns and cannons have good free aim so you can calculate how to bring ships down the fastest instead of just randomly pressing down on the shoot buttons hoping they will hit.
